Ryane Snow, Ph.D., amateur botanist, teacher, surfer, diver, practitioner of Chinese medicine, pharmacy technician, has been studying and collecting mushrooms for over thirty years. Ryane’s work as a synthetic chemist of natural products at Stanford in 1970 led to his interest in the medicinal properties of fungi. He joined the Mycological Society of San Francisco, where he served on the Taxonomy and Toxicology Committees. Since the inception of the annual Mendocino County Wine and Mushroom festival, Ryane has led numerous mushroom identification walks and Forest to Table workshops.

For the past three years, he has served as a staff member for David Arora’s (author of Mushrooms Demystify) highly acclaimed Thanksgiving weekend mushroom workshops. Ryane enjoys teaching interested people of all ages about the often-hidden and fascinating world of mushrooms, their importance to the ecology of the forest, their medicinal properties, and the wonderful culinary opportunities they provide.

• Typical group tours includes a brief, hands-on introduction to local fungi, followed by a 2 to 3 hour walk in the woods: $20 per person; children under 16 free.

• Private foraging tours are also available, and can be customized to your liking: $50 per hour for groups up to 4 people. Contact: rsnow@mcn.org or telephone (707)937-0461.
