(Mon Dec 21) Do This Today in Mendocino

Culture
Experience some holiday fun at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens! This holiday season brings a revival of the old custom of electric trains running around beneath decorated trees-in a big way, as the Botanical Gardens are hosting a seasonal train show staged by the Mendocino Coast Model Railroad & Historical Society. A sizeable layout will be operating just inside the Garden entrance, depicting locations on the Skunk Line as they looked back in the 1930s to 1950s. The Gardens are located at 18220 North Highway One, Fort Bragg and are open from 11:00 am to 4:00pm daily.

Food & Wine
For lunch we recommend Café Beaujolais (on Evergreen), Patterson’s Pub (on Lansing), and the Mendocino Café (also on Lansing) in Mendocino. Good food at great prices.

Driving south on the 128, stop at Navarro, Toulouse, Londer or Meyer Vineyards for nice people and good wine.

Outdoors
Walk the headlands of Van Damme State Park – the entrance is directly across the driveway from Glendeven. Walk 15 minutes the cliffs of the ocean, then turn right and go north along the bluff through the woods to the open meadow that is Spring Ranch. A very worthwhile walk.

If heading south on the 128, stop at Hendy Woods State Park (turn right up Greenwood Philo Road) and walk amongst old growth redwoods. A worthwhile stop.

TIDES:
Low: 7:44 AM
High: 1:12 PM
