8:00PM The Mendocino Theater Company presents "Dog Sees God," winner of the 2004 GLAAD Award. Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead acutely examines the brutal effect high school environments can have on soul-searching youth. The play astutely explores the connection between teen violence and homophobia, and the hidden shame and insecurities often at the root of bullying. 45200 Little Lake Street, Mendocino.

All month long, the Mendocino Hotel (Main St in Mendocino) is featuring Alsatian tapas in honor of the 5th annual International Alscace Varietals Festival.

Outdoors

The well-wooded trail that runs along Big River provides some great views and good wildlife watching. Parking is available on the northeastern shore, entrance at the north side of the Big River Bridge.

Good food at great prices.

Listen to live jazz while sitting at the bar at the Ledford House. Try the Soup de Poisson. It's everything that's good for you in a bowl. South of Glendeven by 5 miles on the ocean.

Outdoors
1:30pm Join a staff mycologist on a weekly Monday walk for mushrooms throughout the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden. Mushroom identification, biology, edibility, myths and the good times that all come along with a mushroom walk will be included. Warning: exposure to the mushroom world can be habit-forming! (Free with $10 Garden admission.)

The three-course mushroom menu (available all through mushroom season) at Mendo Bistro in Ft Bragg is a great deal and wonderful food. We’re fans of this place. Located on Main Street at Redwood in Ft Bragg, above the “Company Store,” open for dinner starting at 5:00pm.

Outdoors
Walk Van Damme State Park's Fern Canyon trail which has a heavy tree cover -- good for rainy day walking if you're game.

Or take refuge from the occasional showers forecast for today on the well-wooded trail that runs along Big River. Parking is available on the northeastern shore, entrance at the north side of the Big River Bridge.

It's going to be a beautiful day! Pick up a great bottle of local wine (Glendeven Wine Bar[n] open 3-7 specializing in Mendocino County wines), and get some yummy sandwiches from the Little River Market or Harvest Market in Mendocino, then head out to enjoy the sunshine.

If driving south on the 128 today, stop at Navarro, Toulouse, Londer or Meyer Vineyards for nice people and good wine.


Outdoors
Walk the short half-mile to the Point Cabrillo Light Station, where the views are always amazing, but sunset is truly breathtaking. The grey whales are migrating south, so watch for spouts!

If heading south on the 128, stop at Hendy Woods State Park (turn right up Greenwood Philo Road) and walk amongst old growth redwoods. A worthwhile stop.

Mendocino Headlands State Park is always a stunning place to take a walk - for a few minutes, or for hours on end. Open dawn to dusk, at the western edge of town. Visit the Ford House for information 11am-4pm daily.

Or walk Jug Handle State Natural Reserve and see five different forest zones in one walk. Located just north of Caspar on Highway 1.

There are bands tonight at the Ledford House and Hill House to ring in the New Year.

The two big parties for new years eve are at The Hill House and Ledford House tonight. Details in reception.

While the sun is out, be sure to walk the headlands across from Glendeven .

Or take a drive up to Pacific Star Winery, about 12 miles north of Ft Bragg where you can sit at their picnic tables on the cliffs, taste some wine and have a nice picnic.

Our favorite walks include the waterfall walk in Russian Gulch (6 miles round trip), and Fern Canyon trail right behind Glendeven in Van Damme State Park.
